The Superocean Slow Motion, designed for peak performance in all aquatic activities, emerged in the 1960s when scuba diving became immensely popular. Breitling focused on creating the most straightforward dive watch for divers, where timing is critical, by stripping away any non-essential features. The result was a watch with a minimalist design, featuring clean lines, prominent luminescent indexes, squared-off hands, and a high-contrast dial ring to ensure optimal legibility underwater. While practicality was key, it was the watch's aesthetic that truly captivated enthusiasts.
The Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver revisits the celebrated design elements of the Slow Motion, while incorporating modern features such as a scratch-resistant matte ceramic-inlaid bezel and camouflage dials. Its broad hands and indexes are coated in luminescent Super-LumiNova®, ensuring easy readability underwater. The watch boasts water resistance up to 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) and is also resistant to shocks, sand, and saltwater. Beyond its outward appearance, the watch offers additional protection with a soft-iron inner case that guards against magnetic fields, and a bi-directional rotating bezel that can be locked securely on the left side of the case.
The two available straps, rubber or titanium bracelet, feature a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments up to 15 mm, making it convenient to wear over rashies and wetsuits. A versatile timepiece, it can now be used not just for diving, but for surfing, swimming, and even wearing to the beach bar and dinner. The Superocean maintains a perfect balance between its heritage and a modern, updated appearance.
